Red Menace To The Entire Free World

WASHINGTON, Dec 16 (Recd 6 pm).—The United States today called for a conference of the Foreign Ministers from the 21 western hemisphere countries to consult on Cmmunism's threat “to the entire free world.” The statement, in calling for the conference said: “The aggressive policy of international Communism carried out through its satellites lias brought about a situation in which the entire free world is threatened.” It said the meeting was proposed to consider problems of an urgent nature, and of common interest to the American States. The Assistant Secretary of State (Mr Edward Miller) said the United States hoped the conference would be held by mid-Febru-ary at the earliest. The United States is'callihg the conference under Article 39 of the Bogota Charter, which lays down the broad measures for the political, economic and military security of the 21 American republics. The United States’ request for a conference will go before the Council of Organisation of American States. A two-thirds vote is needed actually to convoke the meeting.
