In the local championship, Red Sox and Giants are equal in the men’s section, each team having suffered a loss. Red Sox were defeated by United and Giants lost to Red Sox. Because of the loss of some players, Red Sox will have to rearrange their team lor next season. United have been defeated twice by Giants and Aces respectively. They still have to play the improving Wanganui East Braves team, who are likely to extend them. In the women’s section, Dodgers’ success has been the main feature so tar. They are in the lead from St. Mary’s with Amazons next. Main factor in Dodgers success has been that opponents have had difficulty in coping with the speedy pitching ol Gwen Atkinson. However, with a little attention paid to their batting, both St. Mary's and Amazons could account for the champion leaders. N.Z. CHAMPIONSHIPS. The New Zealand softball championships will be played in Christchurch from January 1 to 6. The personnel of the Wanganui representative team is: D. Bayley (captain), L. Cuthbertson (vice-captain), M. Wright, K Richdale, J. Aspinall, B. Fountain, O. Daken, V. Campbell, N. Carroll, P. Stewart, E. Hollenbach and A. Carroll. The chaperone is Mrs T. J. Matthews, wife of the president of the Wanganui Softball Association. The Wellington team, who won the title last year, will be fielding much the same team again in the championships.
