MAIN LINE DERAILMENT NEAR FRANKTON
AUCKLAND, Last Night (PA).— Eight wagons of a north-bound goods train were derailed about threequarters of a mile north of Frankton about 8 o’clock tonight. Both lines were blocked, and it was expected that they would not be cleared until about 2 a.m. tomorrow. There were 99 wagons in the train. Railway gangs with cranes were soon at work clearing the lines. Little information is available of the extent of the damage done. However, it is known that one line was buckled.
The south-bound Limited express, about two hours behind the goods train, will have to wait until the line is cleared. It is expected that it will be about six hours late reaching lington. Passengers on the 4.20 p.m. Auckland-Frankton train, which was behind the goods train, were transferred to buses and taken to Frankton. Many other trains are also held up waiting for the line to be cleared.
