REPRESENTATIVE CRICKET
NORTH RANGITIKEI DEFEAT SOUTH RANGITIKEI TAIHAPE, Dec. 3 (O.C.).—North Rangitikei defeated South Rangitikei by 133 runs on the first innings in a trial match played at Taihape on Saturday and Sunday. Features of the game were splendid scores of 76 by C. Merrett and 66 by N. Ashenden for the winners. Both gave sparkling exhibitions, Merrett in particular scoring at a very fast rate. H. Jones was unfortunate in being run out when he had scored 28 for North Rangitikei. R. Woodhead contributed a very useful 36. In the second innings, Nicholls (36), J. Finney (28 not out), Jones (26), and Hamilton (21) got amongst the runs. For South Rangitikei P. Whale 46) and R. Worker 30) were the only batsmen to make a stand in the first innings. Most of the visiting batsmen were unable to cope with he bowling of D. McCarthy, who took four wickets for seven runs.
South Rangitikei batsmen prominent in the second innings were: Dickson 43 not and and Timmins 35. North Rangitikei declared when they had lost four wickets for 121 runs in the second innings, while South Rangitikei had made 131 for four wickets when stumps were drawn. The match was thus decided on the first innings, North Rangitikei being easy winners. They scored 270 and. 121 for four declared).
