CENTRAL DISTRICTS FACE INNINGS DEFEAT BY WELLINGTON TODAY
WELLINGTON, Last Night (PA).—Tile new Centra! Districts cricket team fell short of Plunket Shieid standard when it was almost routed in two cl the three scheduled days at the Basin Reserve, Wellington. Unlucky in having to bowl on the first day in a near gale, the side nevertheless had perfect conditions for batting on Saturday, but at stumps had made 82 and 129 for eight wickets in reply to Wellington’s 291 for nine declared. The scoring rate was deadly slow. The Central District batsmen were just not capable of getting on top of the judiciously handled Wellington attack. Apart from Ongley, Chapple (formerly of Canterbury) and the Taranaki left-hander, Miller, a very moderate resistance was offered to the useful Wellington attack. Reid, Murray, Randall, Dempster and Rabone all collected */ickets. Dempster was probably as impressive as any bowler with his well flighted slows, but most of the batsmen were reluctant to move down the wicket to him. Scores:— WELLINGTON First Innings S.
