Nehru’s Plan To End The War in Korea

LONDON, Dee. 3 (Red. 9.40 p.m.).—The Indian premier (Mr. Nehru) has prepared a plan to end the Korean war and bring about a tar Eastern settlement, says “Reynolds News.” Mr. Nehru outlined the plan to a special meeting of parliamentary Congress Party, claimed “Reynolds News.” It is in two parts.

The first part proposed that Britain, the United States, Russia, France and China meet at New Delhi to endeavour to hammer out the Far East crisis.

The second proposed that there be an immediate cease-fire in Korea and the establishment of a neutral zone with the supervision by a United Nations Commission, in which India is willing to take part. The newspaper "The People” quoted a highly-placed

diplomatic source in Moscow as saying that Russia and China have worked out terms for peace in the Far East which they are ready to submit to the Atlantic Powers as the basis for discussions. The terms are:

The Big Four shall begin negotiations for a peace treaty for Japan with a date fixed for the departure of American occupation forces. General MacArthur shall be replaced by civilian high-commissioner. Formosa shall be handed to Red China.

"The People's” diplomatic correspondent said the terms would have to be watered down before they could find acceptance in the West, but do provide a basis for negotiation. These terms, with the fact that Mr. Attlee is flying to Washington have created a fresh atmosphere in which agreement is considered possible.
