French Sloop At Auckland After Helping War In Indo-China

AUCKLAND, Last Night (PA).— France’s war against Communism in Indo-Cliina has been aided with the arrival of a convoy of landing support ships which last month were escorted from San Francisco to the Marshall Islands by the French Colonial sloop, Francis Gamier. The Francis Garnier handed over the convoy to a French tank-landing ship jn the Marshall Islands, and steaming by way of Noumea, arrived at Auckland today. Of 2100 tons, the Francis Garnier was built as the Italian Navy's Eritrea in 1936. After serving under the Italian flag in the Red Sea during lhe early part of the second World War, she escaped to Japan and spent the rest of lhe war there. About three years ago she was transferred to the French Navy. The sloop will be in Calliope Dock from December 1 to December 8. On comulet on of her refit she will sail
