The reputation of trial matches for dour cricket was maintained on Cook’s Gardens yesterday, whei Mana watu-Wairarapa-Hawke's Bay played Wanganui-Taranakl-Rangitikei in the final trial for the Central Districts Plunket Shield team. Apart from an enterprising lOth-wlcket stand of 57 by Chappell and Ancock and a splendid exhibition of bowling by the colt, Collett, of Dannevirke, the match was anything but entertaining. The bowling, admittedly was hard to score off, but batsmen seemed to pay more attention to keeping their wickets intact, than going for runs. This was only natural. Playing for Manawatu-Wairarapa-Hawke’s Bay, Collett, a youngster just out of high school, caught the bye aS a likely fast bowler.'
