High Voltage Line Used To Rescue Workers
NEW YORK, Nov. 19 (Recd. 11.30 pm).—Army engineers last night used a 12,000-volt power line in rescuing 35 peonle who were in danger of drowning on an island by the flooded King’s River, nea" Fresno, California. Engineers, after other attempts had failed, shut off the power in the line which crosses the island. A rope was dragged across the power line and a small boat was ferried back and forth across the river until all were rescued. The island was submerged soon after the rescue.
The King’s River rose rapidly when seven inches of rain fell in 16 hours. Those rescued were workers on a dam construction project on the river, and their families.
