HAWERA CANDIDATES FOR FEILDING EVENTS
HAWERA, Last Night.—Condition! were ideal at Hawera this morning for the final gallops of Feilding candidates. The course proper and the plough were in first-rate order. On the Gran Master Mink (McKenzie), Rev (Lyons) and Gay Claire (Lord) were not kicked out when running five furlongs in 1.5. Master Mink has benefited with his recent outing at Stratford, and he can be relied upon for a forward display. Rev makes his open debut In the Kiwitea Handicap. He has drawn the extreme outside, but that handicap may not prove too great. He is a more than useful three-year-old. Vigorous (McKenzie) carried a welterweight when sprinting half a mile with Robin Glen (Tokl) in 50. Under his light impost, Vigorous Is expected to keep the opposition busy in the Flying Handicap. Robin Glen Is a smart filly, but does not stick on quite well enough at present. Homing Pigeon (Belsham) had no difficulty in accounting for Beau Toff (Cole) at the conclusion of five furlongs In 1.6. Homing Pigeon has recovered from an earlier setback, and he should be seasoned enough to run well in the first division of ths Aorangl Trial Plate. He has been placed on several occasions in novice class this season. Chaluck (Belsham) shaded Bella Mia (Thomas) over five furlongs In 1.5. Chaluck is a vastly improved Admiral's Luck filly, who should continue to race well in pending engagements. She will compete on the second day. Energetic (McKenzie) and Enthuse (Lyons) sprinted three furlongs nicely in 36. Both youngsters earlier jumped out well from the barrier. Broiemartia (Belsham) set off to gallop three furlongs from a barrier start, but he ran about a lot on his own and he required 43. He Is a strong-bodied colt by Brolefort from Molly Martia and is to make his debut on Saturday. He should acquit himself favourably, though the race will definitely Improve him. Index (Thomas) reeled off three furlongs in 361. She is an Instinct filly coming to hand well under the care of R. J. Flower. Sanda (Belsham) also ran 36i in a similar effort. She is speedy but stops quick. On the Plough Leighon's Gold (Belsham) and Nawadaha (Thomas) ran the last two furlongs of pacework in 24. The former makes little appeal for Feilding. Kia Ora Katoa (Scott) traversed an easy circuit, running the last six furlongs in 1.19. His prospects do not appear enhanced with the present dry state of the tracks. Clones (Mills), who showed speed while her condition lasted In her debut at Stratford, ran two fUrlongs at the end of pacework in 251. A well grown filly by Instinct-Mahalna, Clones is expected to improve quickly as the season advances.
