Concern At Raetihi Hospital Because Of Power Shortage
The electric power situation at the Raetihi Hospit.il was causing him grave concern because of the severe power shortage there, reported the engineer, Mr Martin Smith, at the monthly meeting of the Wanganui Hospital Board yesterday. “Power cuts of long dura.ion havehad to be imposed and this situation will not be improved for some considerable time,” Mr. Smith added. “1 would suggest that an emergency lighting plant be installed ot sufficient size to run all the lights necessary during these blackout periods.” Inquiries showed that a 2i k.w. pet-rol-driven generating set could be purchased from the War Assets Realisation Board at the cost of £l5O. The chairman, Mr. D. D. Simpson, said that the engineer had told him that the power position became so bad at Raetihi that for a week the hospital was without lights. The report was adopted and the board gave the engineer authority to purchase the generating plant described.
