Rangitikei Wants Hawke Cup Game Played At Marton Against Manawatu

A representative programme up to the first week in January was tentatively arranged by the Rangitikei Cricket Association at a meeting of the management committee in Marton on Tuesday night. For the purpose of selecting the Rangitikei team the annual trial match between North and South Rangitikei will be played at Taihape on December 2 and 3. A suggestion from Taihape that a match between the B teams be played on December 2 was turned down, chiefly because it would mean the suspension of all club games and several players would be deprived of their Saturday afternoon’s cricket. With the A team playing in Taihape. club games will continue in South Rangitikei on December 2. Rangitikei is to make overtures to Manawatu to play the Hawke Cup elimination match at Marton on either January 1,2 and 3, or January 4, 5 and 6. Manawatu wrote inviting Rangitikei to play the match at Palmerston North on December 23, 25 and 26. These dates were unacceptable to Rangitikei, as players have never been in favour of plying cricket on Christmas Day. Furthermore. last time Rangitikei played Manawatu, the game was played in Palmerston North and the meeting considered it was Manawatu's turn to visit Marton. Arrangements are in hand for the Rangitikei team to play the touring Karori team at Taihape on December 27 and 28, while efforts are also being made to pit the Rangitikei team against the touring Hutt Valley Colts at Marton on the same dates. An application from Wanganui Cricket Association for a match between Rangitikei A and Wanganui at Wanganui over Christmas and for a game against the touring Wanganui Colts was deferred pending the outcome of negotiations for other games tentatively arranged during this period.
