NAVY TRUCK OVERTURNS

A Navy truck, driven by Able Seaman Robert Wenden McClinchie, of Waiouru W/T station, overturned near the Hautapii River bridge at the northern end of the Taihape borough boundary on Friday night. Two naval ratings and a soldier were travelling in the vehicle as passengers. The soldier received an injury to his shoulder, and was admitted to the Taihape hospital for treatment, being discharged later. The truck was damaged and the driver was subsequently charged in the Taihape Magistrate's Court with being in a state of intoxication while in charge of the truck. He was convicted and fined £lO and his licence was cancelled for 12 months. He was also ordered to pay medical expenses £l/1/-. Messrs. W. Hudson and N. Ashenden were on the Bench. Sgt. L. Nicol conducted the prosecution for the police.
