France Must Forget Her Ancient Feud With Germany For Europe’s Sake
LONDON, Nov. 7 (Rec. 6 pm).Mr. Lewis W. Douglas, r< tiring American Ambassador to Britain, in a farewell speech last night, said that if the Western world were to have an adequate common defence, Germany and France must forget their ancient feud. He said there could be a reapprochment and enduring reconciliation of the two 'nations within lhe proposed Schuman plan for the pooling of lhe heavy industries of Western Europe. Reconciliation • •ouid be made more solid by a separate prospect of a genuine international military and defence organisation, subject to political direction, which, under lhe North Atlantic Treaty organisation, "is so appropriately being considered."
