United States And British Have Launched A Counter-Attack
SEOUL, Nov. 7 (Recd. 11.40 pm).— American and British troops struck out across the Chongchon River today in a broad counter-offensive and gained a mile in the first few hours against withdrawing Communist forces. They met only light opposition. The attack was launched at dawn ty the United States 25th Division, with the British Commonwealth Brigade, to recapture Pakchon and expand the bridgehead north of the river drive to the cities of Sinanju and Anju on the south bank of the river 50 miles north of Pyongyang.
The United States Ist Corps spokesc man said today that there had been z some local withdrawals of enemy _ forces, but there are still large enemy s forces in the bridgehead area, and no t indication of a general withdrawal. Considerable movements indicated that the enemy was regrouping and re-deploying.
