AERIAL FOR TRANSPORT OF GOODS ON MOUNT RUAPEHU APPROVED

RAETIHI, Last Night (O.C.)—Faced with the problem of transporting large quantities of material to its lodge site on Ruapehu, the Ruapehu Ski Club recently applied to the Tourist Deparement to erect a aerial over what is known as the "gangway"—from the top of Scoria Flat road to the plateau some 500 feet up the main route to the summit. In acquainting the Park Board with the proposal at the annual meeting, Mr. L. Denness, Chateau manager, said it was the club’s intention to utilise a wire on a 7-pole structure with a winch on the upper end. He thought that as this was on the pole route it might endanger people when in operation and, under the circumstances, the applicaition should be referred to the board. The rope would be removed with the disappearance of the snow, but he thought that if the application were granted it would be wise to stipulate conditions. The chairman of the board, Mr. D. M. Greig, said it was the desire of the club to get started early and the board did not want to obstruct it in any way. The route was a big factor and it must be subject to the approval of the park warden and the Chateau manager. With the chairmans stipulation and conditional on the the aerial being dismantled by the end of May next, the application was granted.
