Omatane Sports Club UTIKU, Last Night (O.C.).—That the sports meeting held last Easter had been a great success was reported to the annual meeting of the Omatane Sports Club by the president (Mr. J. W. A. Donovan). He said the new domain at Omatane would be of benefit to the club, which would now have a permanent home. In conjunction with the Domain Board, the club be able to erect permanent buildings for the sports. Since the club was formed six years ago, approximately £470 had been contributed to various cultural activities in the district as well as to the servicemen’s funds. The club had also built up its funds. The secretary (Mr. J. McCartin) said the balance sheet showed a profit of £149. A donation of £5O had been made to the Omatane Domain Board.
The following officers were elected for the year:—Patron, Mr. A. McColl (re-elected); president, Mr. R. G. Lawton; committee vacancies, Messrs. J. Hickey, J. Loughnane, W. A. Lawton, J. W. Donovan, A. H. Smith and P. Becker; vice-president, Mr. j. W. Campbell; secretary, Mr. J. McCartin; assistant secretary, Mr. I. McK. Bull; delegate to the Taihape Horse Sports Association, Mr. A. H. Smith. It was decided to hold the annual sports meeting on Easter Saturday next year. Ohotu Tennis Club.
There was an attendance of 10 members at the annual meeting of the Ohotu Tennis Club recently when the following officers were elected:— Patron, Mr H. A. Belk; president, Mr C. H. Transom; vice-presidents, Messrs W. Thurston, D. Wilkie and L. Thomason; secretary, Mr. W. Thurston; treasurer, Mr. T. R. O'Keeffe; club captain, Mr. A. A. Wilson; committee, Mesdames Thurston, Wilkie, C. H. Transom, Wilson and Messrs. B. Winiata, J. McCullock, P. Pragnell; match committee, Mesdames Transom, Wilson and Thurston, Messrs. A. Wilson, D. Wilkie and W. Thurston.' It was decided to increase the subscriptions from 10s to 12s 6d for men and from 5s to 7s 6d for women members. Women's Institute. There was a fair attendance at the October meeting of the Utiku Women’s Institute. The meeting opened with the "Ode to Friendship’’ and "The Aspirations.” Two new members, Mesdames Fenton and Mclntyre, were welcomed by the president. The treasurer presented the financial statement which showed that a profit had been made on the recent flower show. It was decided to recommend Mrs. J. L. Moore to the Ruapehu Federation for a good service badge. Mrs. W. Thurston read the motto "Silence is a great peacemaker.” Mrs.. E. C. Transom reported on the recent Dominion conference at Christchurch at which Mrs. Moore made a presentation to the retiring Dominion secretary. The competitions for November will be an open-necked vase of flowers arranged for effect and shortbread. As November is international month it Is hoped to be able to arrange a special speaker. The competition winners were:— Date short cake, Mesdames Millar and G. M. Transom, 1 equal, Mesdames W. Thurston and Hille, 2 equal. Christmas novelty, Mesdames G. M. Transom and E. C. Transom, 1 equal. Premier flower, Mrs. Hebberd 1.
Rangiwaea Golf Club At the closing day of the Rangiwaea Golf Club trophies were presented to the following.—Women’s section: Intermediate championship: Miss Ruth Collier 1, Mrs. G. Strachan 2. C. grade championship: Miss J. Collier 1, Mrs. M. Livingstone 2. Medal: Mrs. S. Bell; Wilson Cup: Miss E. Collier; eclectic cup, Mrs. C. Strachan. Men's division: Senior championship: K. Donald 1, D. Collier 2. Intermediate championship: J. Collier 1, A. Davis 2. Junior championship: S. Spooner 1, D. Hunter 2. Medway handicap: K. Donald; junior handicap: H. Collier; bogey: D. Collier; medal rounds: B. Donald; challenge cups: J. Collier and I. Donald.
