FILM SCREENING OF WORK FOR CRIPPLED CHILDREN IN WANGANUI

For the purpose of raising funds for the establishment of a home for crippled children in Wanganui, where they can receive continuous treatment without the atmosphere of a hospital, an appeal is being made this month by the Wanganui branch of the New Zealand Crippled Children Society. To illustrate the work which is being carried out for the crippled children under the auspices of the society, a colour film, depicting the work being carried out at the Wanganui Hospital, was screened in the Majestic Theatre yesterday afternoon by Dr. Kenrick Christie, president of the Wanganui branch. The film, which is comprehensive in its scope, was taken by Dr. Christie, and showed the arrival of patients by ambulance and field officers car. One of the highlights of the film is an actual operation in the hospital theatre, the special bath treatment, and other phases of modern treatment are vividly portrayed. It shows what can be accomplished with medical and nursing skill. To assist the funds, it is proposed to hold a film evening in the Majestic Theatre on a Sunday night, as soon as possible, when a feature film and supports, as well as Dr. Christie’s film, will be screened. After yesterday’s screening, Mr. N. J. Owen, for the Wanganui branch of the society, thanked Mr. A. J. Scott (in charge of the theatre) for his cooperation in loaning the theatre for the screening, and thanked those who attended.
