RETRIAL OF WOMAN ON CHARGE OF UNLAWFUL KILLING

AUCKLAND, Last. Night (PA)—The retrial of a widow, Louisa Maria Clark, aged 63, on a charge ol unlawfully killing Mrs Joan Phyllis Jack, thereby committing manslaughter, on April 3, began before Mr Justice Callan and a jury. Accused was represented by Mr Trimmer and Mr Brown. Mr Cleal conducted the prosecution. In his opening address Mr Cleal said that early in the evening of April 3 Mrs Jack, a divorced woman, aged about. 26, went to accused’s house at Ponsonby, and while there collapsed and died. The Crown submitted that accused attempted to procure, or was a party to attempting to procure, the abortion of the deceased, that her actions were unlawful, and as death had epsued, she was guilty of manslaughter. c The case was adjourned.
