THANKLESS PATROL TASK FOR TWO N.Z. FRIGATES '
Only One Shot "In Anger"
WELLINGTON, Last Night (PA).— Since they have been in Korean waters the New Zealand frigates Tutira and Pukaki have fired only one shot in anger. It was fired by the Tutira at a mine.
The frigates, which are part of the British Commonwealth fleet with the United Nations forces, have just re-
turned to base after 46 days of almost continuous duty off the Korean coast, says a message received by the Navy Office today from the Flag Officer secund iu command of the Far Eastern Fleet, Rear Admiral W. G. Andrews. During the past 46 days each ship steamed some 9000 miles and bad only six (fays at anchor. Of the frigates a senior staff officer said: “They had the most thankless job of the sea war —dull, (tally routine patrol. Quietly and efficiently, the ships earned out this duty which was an essential part of the naval war.”
