TRAFFIC CASES HEARD IN WANGANUI COURT

Sever/1 traffic cases were dealt with by Mf* S. S. Preston, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court, Wanganui, yesterday. Timothy Joseph Huru, charged with rot having a warrant of fitness for a car, was fined 10s, costs 10s. Sergeant J. Clements, who prosecuted, said that defendant was involved in an accident with a pedestrian on the Town Bridge. Defendant was not to blame for the accident, but his warrant of fitness had expired. “It is not clear whether defendant has ever had a driver’s licence,” said Sergeant Clements, when Samuel Clifford Rosewarne, of Mangakino, was charged with driving without a licence. Defendant, who had an accident with a truck, was interviewed in hospital by Constable J. Needham, and in his statement said that he had had 25 years’ driving experience, but was not a licensed driver. He was fined 10s, costs 10s. Keith Vernon Bryant, charged by the police with not having a warrant, of fitness for a car, was also fined 10s, costs 10s. Prosecuted by the Transport. Department, Arthur Stanley Allen, garage proprietor, Taumarunui, was fined £3, costs 10s, on a charge of driving without, due care and attention. Traffic Officer R. Peters (Ohakune), who prosecuted, told the Court, that on September 2. which was the first day of the Wanganui races, he was patrolling the Wanganui-Raetihi highway, when he saw a car travelling fairly fast in the direction of the city. At one stage, on a bend, defendant was travelling nt 50 mp.h. on his wrong side. There was no other traffic about.
