A good recovery from complications which Mowed an attack of influenza is being made by His Grace, Archbishop O'Shea, who has been a patient in the Lewisham Hospital at Wellington for several weeks. Miss B. Wadsworth, of 51 Keith Street, celebrated her 80th. birthday yesterday. Miss Wadsworth, who has been a resident of Wanganui for many years was the recipient of good wishes and congratulations from her wide circle of friends.

Mr. H. S. Gair, of Christchurch, who has been with the Geological Survey of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research for the past 18 months, has been appointed to a position as a geologist with the Colonel Service in Northern Rhodesia.

Mr. Robert Harris, of Sydney, has been appointed to the newly-created Chair of Conservative Dentistry at Otago University. He is the present secretary of the N.S.W. branch of the Australian Dental Association, editor of the Dental Journal of Australia and honorary consultant dental surgeon at the United Dental Hospital of Sydney. Brigadier R. S. Park, commander of K Force, left Auckland yesterday for Melbourne, Japan and Korea. He Is to consult United Kingdom and Australian authorities and the United Kingdom Unified Command. He will return to New Zealand before K. Force sails.

The General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of New Zealand will open in Auckland tomorrow, and will continue until November 9. Members of the Christchurch Presbytery, who will attend the assembly include the moderator (the Rev. J. Baird), the youth directoi' of the Presbyterian Church of New Zealand (the Rev. W. M. Hendrie), the Revs. S. C. Francis, L. Farquhar Gunn, H. Graham, D. K. Boyd, B. R. Nottage. W. S. Brettell, A. Fotheringham, I. R. Polson, J. S. Strang, H. W. Haigh, A. M. Richards, A. A. Brash and the Very Rev. J. Lawson Robinson.

The appointment of Air Commodore C. E. Kay C.8.E., D.F.C., as Air Officer Commanding R.N.Z.A.F. Headquarters in London was announced by AuForce Headquarters, Wellington, last night. Air Commodore Kay succeeds Air Commodore M. W- Buckley, C.8.E., who retired from the R.N.Z.A.F. earlier this year. He has been the Member for Supply on the Air Board in New Zealand since 1947. Other appointments to the staff of R.N.Z.A.F. Headquarters, London, are those of Wing Commander J. W. H. Bray, and Squadron Leader M. B. Furlong.—(PA).
