Hawera Candidates For Racing At Bulls

HAWERA, Friday.—The final gallops of Bulls candidates were featured at Hawera yesterday morning, and the New Zealand Cup candidate Robin’s Reward also completed a useful task. Both the plough and the course proper were freely availed of, with the going in excellent order. ON THE COURSE PROPER CorelLa (Meynell) and Goldfort (George) ran half a mile easily in 53 4-5. Corella found the company rather select at Trentham, but she may make amends at Stratford next week. Goldfort is in good order. Sanda (Belsham) got to the end of six furlongs in 1.18. She has a good turn of speed but has not shown much stamina in races to date. Strathconan (Belsham), with a weight advantage, had Master McGrath (Mills) doing his best at the conclusion of six furlongs in 1.19. Strathconan has never looked in better order and her success at Waverley may be a prelude to another at Stratford next week. Leighwin (Toki) sprinted half a mile in 50. He may not be persevered with after the Bulls meeting as his wind seems definitely afflicted. Robin’s Reward (Parker) proved too good for Lady Quick (Belsham) and Meg (George) at the end of seven furlongs in 1.33. Robin’s Reward improved with each race at Trentham and he cannot be passed over in the New Zealand Cup, in which B. J. Langford will again have the mount. Many consider the Robin Goodfellow horse is not a two-miler, but he is such a consistent performer that he is sure to prove a source of danger at Riccarton. Meg ran poorly at Waverley and does not appear to be at her best. She would have to improve considerably to trouble the opposition in the Parewanui Hack Cup on Saturday. Master Mink (Lyons) and Gay Claire (Lord) completed a round of pacework with a sprint up the straight. The former is a promising hack, who has not snorted silk since winning well at the Combined Hunts meeting in August. Gay Claire has been on the easy list in recent months and she has put on a lot of condition. Her form at Te Rapa during the winter was most encouraging. Broiemartia (Belsham) sprinted three furlongs comfortably in 361. A two-year-old colt, by Broiefort-Molly Martin, he is to make his debut at Foil ding. ON THE PLOUGH Tokena (Thomas) ran three fur longs in 37. She is progressing fa vourably. To Kowhai (Thomas) proved 100 forward for Bella Mia (Belsham) when easily defeating her over five furlongs in 1.2 4-5. Te Kowhai missed his engagement at Waverley due io a transport mishap. He should be one of the best local prospects at Bulls on Saturday. Two Grand (Parker) accompanied Fearless Gain (Belsham) over live furlongs in 1.3 3-5, but ho had to bo eased up near the finish when the saddle slipped back. Two Grand shaped promisingly when he ran third in his division at Waverley. The outing has improved him and he may 1 do better at Bulls on Saturday.
