Dunedin Musician Had Memorable Musical Experiences Overseas
WELLINGTON, Oct. 26 (PA). —Mr Roy Spackman, Dunedin, well known in New Zealand musical and competitions circles, had some thrilling musical experiences during his trip round the world.
Mr Spackman returned in the Dominion Monarch today after being away seven months. He is organist and choirmaster at Knox Church, Dunedin.
Among his most memorable experiences were the International Musical Festival in Lucerne, Switzerland, the Edinburgh Festival, the Griller String Quartet who hope to visit New Zealand, the Halle Orchestra under Sir John Barbirolli, the Glyndebourne Opera playing “Marriage of Figaro’’ at. Edinburgh, and the International Festival Orhcestra.
Mr Spackman spent six weeks in the United States, where he heard some “wonderful music.” At the Hollywood High Schools he heard Bach's “Coffee Cantata’’ as an opera. “This was absolutely outstanding,” he said.
