Fire In Engine Room Of Liner Quelled

MELBOURNE, Oct 23 (Recd 11.10 pm).—Fire broke out early today in the engine-room of the inter-State liner Duntroon, moored at Victoria Dock. No structural damage was done, but the liner’s departure for Adelaide has been delayed.

The fire started when a spark ignited oil from a leaking pipe. More than 200 passengers crowded the ship’s corridors as firemen rushed aboard. Hundreds of gallons of foam were poured into the engineroom and the fire was under control within two hours.
