More Than 100 Attend A Queen’s Own Band Social

A most successful social evening was enjoyed at the Queen Alexandra band room last night, more than 100 friends and supporters of the band being present. Mr. A. F. Newrick, the new president was introduced by the patron, Mr. *E. W. F. Gohns. Mr. Newrick, in his reply, said that it was his intention to help the band in every way possible. Mr. Yewen introduced the new management committee and officers of the band. A most interesting outline was given by the new sergent and member of the committee, Mr. D. Askew, ctf the work to be done to provide the band with new uniforms. He asked the lady supporters for their help in raising the necessary funds. His suggestion was enthusistically received and Mrs. W. Searle was appointed convener of a committee of ladies. A delightful supper had been prepared by the young lady supporters of the band, and was greatly appreciated. A programme of vocal and instrumental items was provided during the evening and greatly enjoyed. The senior band played two items, “Musical Fragments’’ and the march “Imperial Echoes”; the junior band played “Strong and Sturdy,” and the hymn “Rock of Ages.” The two bands | combined to play the march “Belphegor.” Greatly appreciated vocal items were given by the Wanganui Savage Club Glee Party, by Mr. J. Flyger and Mr. Charles Haar. Accompaniments were played by Mrs. J. Flyger, Mrs. D. Kilner, and Mr. E. O. Schnack.
