SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 17 (Recd. 5 p.m.)—Scheduled airlines of the world carried 27,000,000 passengers in 1949, which is an increase of 15 per cent, over 1948. Air cargo increased by 20 per coni., Io reach a total of 370.000,000 ton miles. Sir William Hiklred, director-gen-eral of the International Air Transport Association, gave lhese figures today to the association’s sixth annual conference. Sixty-six airlines of 45 nations are members of the associa--1 ion. Sir William said airline operators looked forward to the development ot atomic power which would enable planes to fly farther and faster, with a greater payload than anything now known. j
