Wanganui Horses For Trentham & Waverley

Wave Crest, who is top weight in the Heretaunga Hack Handicap at Trentham on Saturday, and Aberdeen, who is to contest the sevenfurlong Awatea Handicap, worked well yesterday on the Wanganui tracks and will leave for Trentham today.

Several showers were experienced during the work-outs and after allnight rain the tracks were soft, though they provided good going. Fast work was done on No. 1 track close in to the rails.

Wave Crest, with D. Couchman up, went a mile Gay Gordon joining in over the last six furlongs. The pair finished together, Wave Crest being timed to run home from the six-fur-long pc* in 1.17 1-5. Wave Crest will be ridden by L. J. Ellis on Saturday. Aberdeen ran three furlongs in 38 4-5, doing it nicely. The Coronach gelding has gone on the right way since winning on the second day of the Wanganui spring meeting. Parlous (K. Chote) registered 50 1-5 for four furlongs. He is to run in the Brewer Memorial at Waverley on Monday.

Della Rosa and Polleta were given barrier practice, and afterwards Polleta slipped over seven furlongs at a fast clip but was not timed. Balagmore (K. Lawrence) slipped over five furlongs, being timed over the last three in 39. He is to run in the Morton Memorial' Trial at Waverley. Paisley <B. Carroll) had the unnamed Coronach gelding as a companion over half a mile in 50 l-ssec. Paisley, a full-sister to Gay Gordon, is engaged in the Patea Maiden Race on Monday at Waverley. Background (Chote) covered four furlongs in 50 3-5. Green Rushes (Chote) was not required to do her best in running six furlongs in 1.17 4-5. She should go close to leaving the maiden ranks at Waverley. The Pro, who has gone on the right way since winning at Waipukurau, did strong pacework. His next appearance is to be at Bulls on Saturday of next week. Lay-By (W. Lett), Good Record (Chote) and Gathered Gold (W. G. Eales) were companions over five furlongs. Gathered Gold began smartly and ran the first two furlongs in 24 and the thrpe in 36. Lay-By assumed the lead on the turn into the straight and finished half a length in front of Good Record in 1.3, Gathered Gold bring handy. K. Chote has been engaged to ride Finola and Notturna at Trentham on Saturday and will return to ride Parlous, Red Ruler, Flying Cash. Green Rushes and Good Record at Waverley. R. Burt will follow a similar programme. He is to ride Boleigh at Trentham. and on Monday at Waverley he will ride Black Streak Zion, Della Rosa and Mr Justice. W. G. Eales is to Tide Fighting Fox in the Heretaunga Hack at Trentham.
