CHILDREN’S CONCERT A children’s concert produced by Mrs H. Hunger, assisted by Mrs A. Carswell and Mrs T. Duthie, drew a capacity attendance at the Scots’ Hall recently, when a programme of songs, recitations, plays and choruses was presented by the children of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Sunday School. Each item was well received. The programme was as follows: Doxclogy; three choruses, “Wide, Wide as the Ocean,” ‘Tn My Heart” and “Whisper a Prayer,’ by the junior children; poem, “Waves,’ Maureen Still; piano solo, “Blue Eells of Scotland,” Elain Taylor; playette, “The Lost Sheep.” junior children; flannelcraft talk, “Abraham and Isaac,” demonstrating modern teaching methods by Miss Fay McLachlan; song, “Daddy’s Little Girl,” Patty Greig; poem, “Influenza,” Chris Hunger; piano solo, “Birthday Waltz,” Rosemary Hodson; verse speaking, “Windy Nights,” junior boys; song, “The Reason,” girls’ sextet; awkward squad, senior boys; Dutch scene and songs, “The Windmills Turning,” “The Dutch Mill,” “Dutch’” (poem) and “Mr Baggy Breeches” (poem) and “Mr Baggy Gary Holford; character song, “Red Wing,” Thelma Brown; recitation, “The Dental Clinic,” Rod MacLennan; anthems, “How Lovely” and “Praise His Name,” senior girls; poem, “The Rabbit,” Robin Ltwis; character song. “Caller Herrin,” Ngaere Mitchell; Dark Town Minstrels, “Oh Susannah,” “Way Down Upon the Swanee River,” “Old Dog Tiny” and “Darkies Lead a Hanpy Life,” senior boys; National Anthem.

Young Farmers’ Club. There was a good attendance at the monthly meeting of the' Hunterville Young Farmers’ Club held in St. Andrew’s Hall last Thursday evening. The chairman, Mr J. England, in making reference to the death of Mrs J. D. Lilburn, said that she had always been ready to help the club in every way she could. The members observed a minute’s silence as a mark of respect, and sympathy. Many entries were received for the shearing competition to be held at Flock House on November 18. The guest was Mr D. Johnston, district consulting officer of the New Zealand Dairy Board, who showed two films of interest to dairy farmers. The films were “Breeding Better Dairy Cattle,” with a descriptive running commentary, and “Feeding for Butterfat,” with talkie commentary. Horse Sports. 4

At the annual meeting of ’he Rangitikei Horse Sports Association the following schedule of dates for the district meetings during the forthcoming season was approved: Tutaenui, January 20; Pukeroa. January 27; Hunterville. February 3; Ohingaiti, February 10; Mangaonoho, March 3. The chairman, Mr Lindsay Bull, advised that Miss M. Duncan’s Topsail was the winner of the A. and P. Cup. It was resolved that the clubs send their results to the secretary promptly and signed by the club secretary, and that such results be kept on a separate file. The financial statement showed a balance of £8 10s 9d. Mr Lindsav Bull was re-elected chairman and Mr G. K. Campbell secretary. Ohingaiti Gun Club. The results of the Ohingaiti Gun Club’s onen shoot, held during the week-end, were as follows:—Eyeopener (10 targets): J. Beard. B. K. Anderton, D. Missen, L. Horne, D. Wareham, O. W. Hosking. J. B. Thomasen, D. Holden and R. Craig each shot 10 and divided the prize. First £5O open handicap (20 targets): J. McKenzie, D. Wareham. J. Beard, and R. Craig each shot the Possible and divided the nrize. Th? following shot 19 each: J. B. Thomasen. R. Maher, L. J. Thomson, F. S. Mcßeth, L. Horne. D. Missen and D. Holden. Second £5O open handican (20 targets): J. B. Thomasen, R. Maher, S. F. Parks, R. H. Liddle and D. Holden each shot 19 and divided. L. J. Thomson, L. Horne, D. Missen, J. D. McKenzie, K. A. Morris and R. Craig each shot 18. £5O trophy match (15 targets): H- Lumsden, D. Missen, R. Craig and ‘A. Meehan shot the possible. Th? shoot-off resulted as follows: H. Lumsden 1, D. Missen 2, A. Meehan 3. R. Craig 4. First 10-biid sweep: J. B. Thomasen, L. Maher and H. Lumsden each shot the possible and divided. Second 10-bird sweep: D. Wareham, R. H. Liddle and J. D McKenzie each shot the possible and divided. Teams’ match (10 b ir ds): Six teams of five men entered. The winners were Wairarapa IS. Cooper, J. W. McKenzie, J. D. McKenzie, O.’W. Hosking and K. A. Morris). First miss nut: Winner, D. Holden. There were 24 entries. School Committee.

At the monthly rne?t’’ng of the Hunterville ConsolSchool Committee, the headmaster, Mr W. G. Bilbrough, reported that the school r ill had reached 284 with an average attendance of 89 per cent. The grounds were all in good order end more flower seeds had been purchased for the gardens. Tne football seven-a-side team won its section at Wanganui. Cricket had now begun at the school. The calf judging will probably be on the last Friday in November. The snowing of 7-lms had started again. Mr W. B. Beals moved, Mr A. Greig seconded, and it was agreed, that a meeting be called to form a committee to handle the calf judging. The visiting committer, Messrs K. H. Maiden and H. G. Wilson, reported on their visit to the school and submitted various items requiring attention. Accounts amounting t-> £l5 were passed for payment.

Flower Show The Hunterville Anglican Ladies’ Guild annual flower show and sale of work will be held at the Town Hall tomorrow. Entries close at 12 noon and the show opens at 1.30 p.m. There will be stalls of various kinds. Luncheon and afternoon tea will be served. Rata-Putorino W.D. Mrs J. Cameron presided over a good attendance nf members at the usual monthly meeting of the RataPutorino branch of the W.D.F.F., held in the Rata Hall. After the business of the meeting was concluded Mr C. Milne gave a brief report on the recent Provincial meeting. A discussion took place on the various types of flowers to he grown for the autumn flower show so tha* members would know what flowers 1o concentrate on growing. The results of the best bloom competition were as follows Mrs C. F. Scott-Maundrell 1, Mrs N. Signal and Mrs A Dic’d 2 equal, Mrs W. Atkins 3. The competition for next meeting is a jar of marmalade and an apron made out of a piece of print material. Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses for the afternoon, Mesdames Sinclair and Lynch.
