Simpson Scores A Century For The M.C.C. Team
PERTH, Oct. 16 (Recd. 11.59pm).--Reg Simpson scored a brilliant century for England against a Western Australian Colts team today Begining quietly, he hit only one 4 in his first 50, but from then on he punished the attack to reach the century (seven 4’s and one 6) in 120 minutes.
He then proceeded to throw his hand away, and at 109 he was caught off Strauss He and. Sheppard were associated in an opening stand of 126. Sheppard batted with growing confidence to reach 50 (five 4’s) in 83 minutes. and it was over-confidence that caused his downfall. Racing down the wicket to drive the slow bowler, James, he missed and was well stumped. In the morning, Warr, who opened the attack, bowled Rutherford with his first ball, and took three wickets in his second spell before lunch. Scores were:
