FRENCH EVACUATIONS
SAIGON, Oct 16 (Recd 12.5 am).— The French army announced today it evacuated on Saturday the French frontier fortress of Nancham, near the Indo-Chinese border with Communist China. An Army spokesman said all French border posts on the 60 miles frontier between Cabobang and Dongdang have now been evacuated. There had been no “important fighting” before or during the evacuation of Nacham. The places evacuated included pillboxes, other small posts on the border highway between Cabobang and the main French mountain pass fortress of Langson, which is 75 miles north-east of Hanoi. Dongdang, 10 miles northwest of Langson and 25 miles south-east of Thatkhe, were evacuated last week.— Reuter. Rebels Capture Nacham HONGKONG, Oct. 16 (Recd. 6pm). —Peking radio this morning said Ho Chi-Minh’s forces captured Nacham, 50 kilometres north-west of Longson and 30 kilometres west of Chennankwan, on Indo-China’s northern border. Grenade Thrown At French Patrol Car; 12 Injured SAIGON, Oct 16 (Reed 6 pm).— Twelve people were injured when terrorists threw a grenade at a French army patrol car outside a crowded dance hall in Saigon last night. Four French soldiers were seriously injured. —Reuter.
