Debating Contest. The Wanganui Collegiate School debating contest for the Keesing Cup was held in the Big School on Saturday morning and was won by W. J. M. Treadwell (Marris House). The Judge, Mr. R. E. Jack, an old boy cf the school, complimented the speakers on the high standard achieved. "Spider Bowling" The Wanganui Returned Services Bowling Club opened the season on Saturday with what bowlers call "a spider." Bowlers surround the greens and from the four corners played their bowls to "kitty" in the centre. He whose bowl was nearest received a prize. On fhis occasion Mr. M. Beauchamp was the winner and he was presented with what the committee referred to as "two bottles of lunch.’’ Collegiate School. A start was made on Saturday afternoon, in fine weather, with the first club cricket practice game of the season at the Wanganui Collegiate School. Players showed pleasing form for this early stage of the season and prospects are bright for future engagements ahead. It is interesting to note that the first cricket match to be played between King's College, Auckland, and the first eleven of the Wanganui Collegiate School will be played on the school ground on November 6 and 7. Workers For Aramoho Boat-house. The outcome of a successful meeting at the Aramoho Boating Club on Sunday morning was the drawing up of a roster for about 40 members who have volunteered for working bees in the course of the construction of the club’s new boat-house. Four gangs oi 10 workers were organised and the club intends each gang to put in a full day's work on one Saturday in four. The first working bee will probably be held next week-end when further preparation of the boat-house site will be undertaken.
