SENSATIONAL PRICES AT MANGAWEKA CATTLE FAIR
Sensational prices were realised at the Mangaweka cattle fair, report the auctioneers, the New Zealand Farmers’ Distributing Co. Ltd. A large crowd of buyers from Taihape, Manawatu, Hunterville, Wanganui, and Marton districts attended, and bidding was particularly keen for the yarding of good quality forward and conditioned cattle which came forward. One forward conditioned line of big framed four and five-year bullocks realised over £32, with top 4-year-olds making £2B 15s, and top 3-year-olds up to £23 10s. A particularly attractive line of forward empty 3-year PA heifers met with very spirited competition before being knocked down at £lB 2s 6d. A small entry of younger cattle met with keen competition with two-year PA heifers realising £l3 10s, and small UPA steers £l3. The following were the individual prices realised: —4yr PA bullocks, a/c Turnbull Estate, £2B 15s; a’c J. H. Dalrymple, £27. a/c O’Callaghan and Sons, £26 18s; a/c F. H. Thompson Estate, £25; a/c A. N. Zohs, £24s 2s 6d and £24 7s; a/c W. H. Simpson £23 10s; 5-year Hereford bullocks, a/c C. Leary, £2B 10s; 3yr. PA steers, a/c F. H. Thompson Estate, £23 10s; a/c Cornfoot Estate, £23 4s; 3yr. Hereford steers, a/c Ken Deighton, £l9 19s; 3yr. forward PA heifers, a/c Harrison Bros., £lB 2s 6d, fat PA cows, a/c C. E. Collins, £l6 17s 6d; 2yr PA heifers, a'c C. E. Collins, £l3 10s.
Sheep: Medium wether hoggets, 675. Dalgety and Co., Ltd., states that at the Mangaweka Spring Cattle Fair on Thursday a yarding of approximately 420 head of station cattle was submitted to a large attendance of buyers from the Rangitikei, Wanganui and Manawatu districts. The quality over all was fully up to the high standard of previous years. That comprised principally bullocks with odd pens ot female cattle and 2-year-old steers and heifers and yearling heifers. The bullocks came forward in excellent order and condition, which met with animated competition at prices £2 per head in advance of those ruling at the Feilding cattle fair last. week. An outstanding bred line of 4 and 5-year-old P.A. bullocks offered on account of Messrs. Moyle Bros., realised £32 ss, which is a record price for this district. Several other well-known lines sold from £22 to £2B 15s. There was also a particularly keen demand for the younger cattle at prices fully firm on recent cattle fairs. Several head of fat cattle also commanded keen competition, the bullocks selling to £34. The sheep entry comprised one pen of woolly wether hoggets we offered in conjunction with the N.Z. Farmers' Co-op. Dist. Co., Ltd., which realised £3 7s. The following are the mam sales: On account Messrs. Moyle Bros., P.A. bullocks, £32 ss; J. B. C.
