MR. HOLLAND WILL OPEN A. AND P. SHOW NEXT MONTH
If present arrangements are fuL fulled, the Prime Minister, Mr. Holland, will open the Wanganui Agricultural and Pastoral Association’s Spring Show on November 11. The two-day show, which commences on November 10, promises to be one of the best yet he’d by the association. Though it is too early yet to assess the number of entries in the stock sections these are likely to be heavy. One important improvement which should expedite the recording of results is that a telephone system will be installed at various sectional stations. This will eliminate the previous system of runners. Enquiries for space for industrial and machinery exhibits have been received from as far afield as Napier, Hamilton and Wellington and already the bookings compare more than favourably with those of last year. The home industries section should be well up to standard. Mrs C. AProuse, chief steward, has visited the Waikato Winter Show and various women’s organisations in Wellington and Auckland preparing the way for the exhibits in Wanganui. Mr. H. P. Saunders, of Calgary, Canada, has been appointed judge for all breeds for the annual Wanganui Kennel Club Show which is to be held in conjunction with the A. and P. Show. This event will occupy two days this year. Previously it has been a one-day event. It is expected that with an international judge officiating large entries will be received and it has been estimated that 400 dogs of all breeds will be shown. The secretary of the association, Mr. F. H. Donaldson, asks that entries should be made as soon as possible. This would help to avoid a last-minute rush in producing the catalogues. At a meeting of the association last Wednesday night 17 new members were elected, making the total of new members during the last 18 months 295. The full membership is now approaching 900. Judges of the various clases will be: — Pony: Messrs. S. Symes (JPokeno) and John Townsend (Bombay). Hacks: Mr. A. E. Samway (Taihape). Jerseys: Mr. V. Hitchings (Otorohanga).
