FORMOSA TO BE DISCUSSED BY U.N. ASSEMBLY
Rival Factions In China Object NEW YORK.'Out. 5 (Reed. Gpm). - The United Nations Committee today assured a full airing of the Formosa question in the General Assembly. Discussions will involve the future status of the island, now the last stronghold of the Chinese Nationalists. The commit lee, by 10 votes to three, approved a United Stales proposal to place the Formosa case on the Acsembly’s agenda. Nationalist China, Czechosolvakia
and the Soviet Union cast negative votes. Dr. T. F. Tsiang, Chinese Nationalist. delegate, asserted that it was entirely unprecedented in the United Nations for one .member Government lo call in question the territorial possession of another member Government. He described lhe sten taken by the United States as one of the gravest in the complex problem of international relations. The Soviet delegate. Mr. Jacob Malik, objected to the inclusion of the item on lhe grounds that it was contrary lo the Charter and an insult to the Chinese peop-?. He said Formosa belonged to lhe Ch’nese Republic and, was not. open for discussion.
