SYDNEY HOUSEWIVES PROTEST AT QUALITY OF N.Z. POTATOES
SYDNEY, Oct. 6 (Recd. 6pm).— Organising secretary of the Housewives’ Association, Mrs. V. Yorke, said today that some housewives are complaining about the quality of New Zealand potatoes now on sale in Sydney. One woman claims that from six potatoes weighing 21b.. only two were good, and that the others were filled with a white fluid and appeared soapy. Mrs. Yorke herself has not yet bought any New Zealand potatoes. The manager of the produce importers’ committee which imported the potatoes from New Zealand, says that general statements are dangerous, and that New Zealand potatoes have been subjected to more rigid inspection by quarantine officers than any other produce entering Australia.
