League Of Mothers

MEMBERS ENRICHED BY ITS FELLOWSHIP. Many representatives of tne various branches of the League of Mothers from Wellington to Wanganui and the Wairararapa gathered in Wellington recently for the annual provincial meeting. Six mothers from the different districts told fellow members just what the league had meant in their lives and of their hopes for its future. The six talks were inspired by an earlier sugestion to the president (Mrs L. V. Fisher) made by Her Excellency Lady Freyberg, who was present at the meeting. "Why not look for hidden talent among your own members instead .f inviting outside speakers,” had been Lady Freyberg’s idea. Great interest was shown by the large audience in the five-minute talks. Main points included were: — ‘We go home enriched by the fellowship of the League. One of our greatest privileges is to pass on the serenity and Christian background of our own childhood to our children. Worrying will not help us," said Mrs R. Miller (Masterton branch). Mrs J. P. Morrison (Wanganui) said "The best thing we can do is to give our children lives unshadowed by discord and unhappiness, to set a standard in home life that will counteract the modern tendency to take married life and its responsibilities lightly." Among the other speakers was Mrs W. Lawrence (Wainui-a-mata) who stated that she found how much good the personal element does in all organisations, especially in contacting new arrivals who might be lonely, but reluctant to apply for membership. Another speaker said “League membership makes us better wives and better companions for our husbands and families. It teaches us to avoid pettiness, to appreciate differing viewpoints ana draws out latent talent. Lady Freyberg congratulated the speakers and the league on its achievements and said she would write to its founder, the Lady Alice Fergusson of its progress through the years.
