WANGANUI v. AUCKLAND RUGBY MATCH IS TO BE BROADCAST BY 2XA

The representative Rugby match between Wanganui and Auckland, on Spriggens Park next Wednesday, will be broadcast by the Wanganui radio station, 2XA. The commentator will be a member of the staff of 2XA, Mr. Des Walker, who has had considerable experience in broadcasting Rugby matches in Japan. He was formerly an assistant broadcaster for Mr. McKenzie, of 4YA Dunedin, who is known throughout the Dominion by the nickname of “Whang,” for the reason that every time a kicker takes a kick at goal he signals the actual kick by the word “whang?’

Special permission was sought for the broadcast because many Rugby enthusiasts will be working and will be unable to get to the park. The broadcast will not be relayed to Auckland and will be purely of a local nature. It will be 2XA’s second Rugby commentary, the first being on the occasion of the WanganuiBritish Isles game last. July, which was broadcast by the principal Rugby commentator in New Zealand, Mr. Winston McCarthy, of 2 YA.
