AMERICAN MARINES PENETRATE SEOUL

TOKIO. Sept. 22 (Recd. lam)— United States Marines today penetrated Seoul city, and with South Koreans the Marines combed out snipers in the streets. Two forces of Marines, backed by tanks in a pincers movement from the south and north are expected to converge sometime today in the centre of Seoul.

Senior Marine officers forecast a bitter battle for Seoul, with probable fighting in the streets for several days. They estimated there are about 8000 northerners in well-prepared defensive positions in and around Seoul.
