Sperring, the well known artist of Wanganui, and the measure of his success may be gathered in the delightful collection of his works now on view in the D.I.C. annexe. By the medium of water-colours, the artist has caught the glowing colour of zinnias, marigolds, the delicate beauty , of japonica and the charm of New Zealand landscape and fascinating studies of still life. Great interest is being taken in the pictures, many of I which Mr Sperring has painted during several weeks spent among the beauty spots of the South Island and other parts of New Zealand, seeking inspiration and new subjects to study. There are lovely glimpses of Queenstown, Mt. Cook, Lake Wakatipu, the Remarkables and Poplars, scenes ' round the coasts, scenes in and around 1 Wanganui “Springtime from St. John’s Hill,” “Landscape” near Fordell. “Winter Morning,” “Camp at Aramoho,” “The Town Bridge,” “Red Lion Inn,” “Ruapehu” from the Des- ■ ert Road being included in the dis- ‘ play of over 40 paintings.
