Reduced Electricity Allocation Becomes “Permanent” In Auckland
AUCKLAND, Sept. 18. (PA).— The present reduced allocation to consumers of the Auckland Electric Power Board has become a "permanent" allocation as from today. Mr. C. J. Lovegrove, chairman of board, said that lie considered this would apply until Maraetai began to generate power in 1952. Unless there was an abnormally heavy rainfall, which resulted in overflowing lakes no change in the actual amount of electricity at present available to each consumer is involved.
In his announcement, Mr. Lovegrove said that the board would take action against consumers who used too much power. At leasf 50 per cent, of the domestic consumers were not switching off their water heaters during the day and a number of industrial and manufacturing firms were not switching off their motors during tea and luncheon breaks and when their plants were idle.
