City's Flour Will Last Until End Of Next Week
Though Ihe Wanganui, Rangitikel and Manawatu mills have been endeavouring to build up supplies lor some time, any further extension ot' the shipping hold-ups will empty the city’s flour coffers by the end of next week, according to a baking trade representative yesterday.
The boats which bring flour to Wanganui normally call at Wellington and delays there become so great that the vessels fail to keep to schedule and. at times, fail to get their regular trips through. Therefore, Wanganui bakers have failed to land flour within the past few months in sufficient quantities to build up a reserve.
Some city bakers are expected to be out of flour by the end of next week unless ships come here again by the middle of next week. And if the ships are still paralysed by the end of next week or unless supplies are received by road or rail most of the bakehouses will have to stop baking bread.
