CITY A GRADE TABLE TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIPS APPROACHING DECISIONS
Only the semi-finals and finals of the men’s singles and the final of the combined doubles remain to bo played in the A grade section of the Wanganui residential table tennis championships now under way in the Gonville Town Hall. C grade games begin tonight, followed by D grade games on Saturday. In the quarter-finals of the tingles last night, a veteran player, C. Smallwood, showed a return to his best form when he defeated E. T. Urlich, the fourth seeded Wanganui player, in four sets.
In the semi-finals played next week, L. T. Howe meets K. V. Connor and R. Stewart meets C. Smallwood. In the combined doubles semifinals played last night, E. J. Urlich and Miss S. Green beat R. Mahoney and Miss G. Schneider, 21-18, 12-21, 21-12, and L. Howe and Miss M. Broadbent beat R. Leahv and Mrs. T. Fowler, 21-14, 17-21. 21-12. Urlich and Miss Green will meet Howe and Miss Broadbent, in the final.
The men's plate was concluded last night, D. J. Sullivan boating J. Foster, 21-13, 21-15. It was a popular victory for a promising young player.
