ROYAL TOUR TO BE MUCH LIGHTER THAN PREVIOUSLY PLANNED
WJjLLINGTON, Last Night (PA). —Then- Majesties the King and Queen would have a far lighter itinerary for their pending tour of New Zealand than was intended in 1948, said the Governor-General, Sir Bernard Freyberg, V.C., when addressing the Wellington Commercial Travellers’ and Warehousemen’s Association tonight. “It will be a great disappointment to many that their Majesties will have to miss many places that they would like to have visited, ’’ said His Excellency.
“Ways must be found to get, the people to larger centres to see Their Majesties.” The amount that the King would be able to do would be limited by his health. “There will be no fast motor trips from village to village, or city to city.’’ Sir Bernard said it was obvious the King would have to have long rest periods between his official functions. The 1948 itinerary would have been heavy, even for a perfectly fit man.
