British Liberals Keen To Maintain Party's Separate Entity

LONDON. Sept. 8 (Rccd. 6pm).— The Liberal Party executive has published two resolutions to be moved on its behalf at a party assembly in Scarborough from September 27 to 30. The first resolution urges the maintenance of an independent Liberal Party, opposed to Conservatives and Socialists alike. The second resolution demands “full-scale mobilisation of the productive capacity of the nonCommunist world to meet the Totalitarian challenge.” The executive declared: “The Socialist and Conservative parties are each dependent upon the support of powerful interests and are pursuing policies which can only end in either Marxist or capitalist collectivism. Elimination of the Liberal Party would mean the permanent establishment of a two-party system and the eventual triumph of Socialism. This is because those who, for any reason, tire of Conservative Governments and will only have the alternative of Socialism to support, thus giving a mandate for further Socialist measures, some of which can never be rescinded.”—Reuter.
