MEMORIAL SERVICE FOR MEN WHO WERE KILLED AT CRETE
Parliament Bldgs, Last Night (P A ) —A Royal New Zealand Navy Press release states that a memorial service was held at the British Military Cemetery at Suda Ba v , Crete on September 4, for the 1500 or more British and Commonwealth personnel who died fighting in defence of the island. The service, which was conducted by the chaplain of the Mediterranean Destroyer Command, was attended by officers and rating of H.M.-N.Z. frigates Taupo and Hawea. A Wellingtonian, Mr. W. Martin, who is visiting Crete, was also present at the ceremony. The Mediterranean Fleet comprising three cruisers, seven destroyers, four frigates and five submarines as well as the two New Zealand fri-
gates, is carrying out its second summer cruise. In addition to carrying out exercises in nearly all forms of naval warfare, visits are to be made to ports in France, Greece, Italy. Turkey, Corsica, Sicily and North Africa.
