U.S. Does Not Desire Tariff Talks To Be Postponed
LONDON, Sept 7 (Recd. 6 p.m.)— According to Washington reports, the • United States State Department has decided not to support recent sugges- ! tions in America that a proposed in- ! ternational tariff conference, to be I held at Torquay at the end of this | month, should be postponed. i In a statement the Department said that the invasion of Korea had greatly i increased and not lessened the need , for economic strength and unity : among the nations of the free world. ■ The statement discounted fears ex- I pressed in the United States that any I scaling down of American tariffs which might result from the Torquay , meeting would prove injurious to American business.
