Marines Resent Being Called Police Force For The Navy
TOKIO, Sept. 7 (Reed. 11 p.m.)—• United States Marines, who have fought the toughest of offensives in the Korean war, exploded bitterly today about President Truman’s letter calling them “a police force for the Navy,” according to front-line reports. One officer is quoted as saying: “Our propaganda consists largely of how we behave in battle and that speaks for itself.”
Another snapped: "Harry ought to be impeached. The Marines were here before he was, and will be here after he has gone.”—Reuter.
