Grass Grub Parasites Liberated In The Raetihi District
PARLIAMENT BLDGS-, Sept. 1 (P.A.).-As the result of surveys in New Zealand of grass grub infestations to locate suitable areas for the liberation of parasites, more than 1100 females belonging to five species of parasite have been released at Raetihi and Nelson, states the annual report of the Entomological Research Station which is contained in the annual report of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research. The choice of locality was determined by the availability of grass grub infestations at a suitable stage. While a few parasites had been recovered from the field at Nelson and Ashburton, indicating that the parasites had completed one generation on the New Zealand grass grub, it is not yet certain that they aie permanently established, says the report. No indication is given of the success or otherwise of the parasites liberated in the Raetihi area.
