Wanganui Juniors Win Against Taihape
TAIHAPE, Yesterday (OC). —Wang. nui’s junior Rugby representatives on Saturday defeated Taihape juniors by 11 points to 6. The visitors fielded a strong well-bal-anced team and on the general run of play they deserved their win. Their half-back, N. Aitken, played an exceptionally good game and was always a thorn in the side of the opposition. Cox, the Wanganui full-back, fielded well and gave a good all round display. C. Clark, the Wanganui five-eighth, proved himself a good attacking back and reaped the reward of his efforts with two good tries. Sinnett and McLean were prominent in the forwards. Chase went well for Taihape as first five-eighth and played a prominent part in the try scored by McSweeney, the Taihape winger, who played with dash and determination. B. Thurston shone in the lineouts and J. Tierney was always dangerous. Wanganui opened the scoring with a penalty goal kicked by Sinnett. Taihape equalised when M. Chase deeply penetrated the defence before passing to McSweeney, who clapped on the pace to score in the corner. The kick failed and honours were even 3 all. A Wanganui attack in which the
ball was tossed about with delightful abandon saw Clark cross for a try which was not converted. Wanganui led 6-3 at half-time and increased their lead to 11-3 when R. Smith put in a run down the sideline and passed infield to Clark, who scored his second try. Sinnett converted. B. Potaka kicked a penalty for Taihape in the closing stages of the game which ended Wanganui 11, Taihape 6. Mr. B. J. Sherlock was referee. The teams were: — Wanganui: Cox, Hyatt, A. Strachan R.
